主題:

Lighting the Way Beyond the Montessori Classroom: Transforming Math Learning and Cultural Practice

In today’s shifting educational landscape, Montessori educators are called to extend their influence beyond the prepared environment into broader school systems. This presentation explores how core Montessori principles—such as following the child, concrete-to-abstract learning, and sensorial integration—can be harmonized with national education frameworks to support transformation within traditional primary classrooms, particularly in the domain of mathematics.

The session addresses common learning bottlenecks in math education, such as rigid pacing, abstract instruction, and performance anxiety, which often disconnect children from the joy of learning. By drawing from Montessori sensorial and mathematical practices, we offer practical strategies for reintroducing rhythm, meaning, and independence into math learning—even in classrooms without Montessori materials.

Through case studies from Taiwan , we demonstrate how small, principle-based adaptations in teaching methods, classroom routines, and teacher mindset can bridge the gap between cultural tradition and child-centered innovation. The presentation invites Montessori professionals to see themselves not only as guides within their own classrooms, but as cultural stewards—planting seeds of transformation across educational systems.
